Bharti Airtel, a telecommunications company, has introduced India's initial AI-driven spam detection system to address the problem of unwanted calls and messages faced by its customers. Recently, unauthorized marketing calls and messages have become a nuisance.
As per Airtel, the tool will notify customers in real-time about any suspected spam calls and messages. The solution is provided at no charge and will automatically activate for all Airtel customers without the need for them to request a service or download an app.
"Spam has become a menace for customers. We have spent the last twelve months to solve this comprehensively," Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bharti Airtel, said on the occasion.
"Our solution has been able to successfully identify 100 million potential spam calls and 3 million spam SMSes originating every day. For us, keeping our customers secure is a burning priority," Vittal added.
Created internally by Airtel's team of data experts, the AI-driven tool utilizes a unique algorithm to detect and categorize calls and texts as "Suspected SPAM". The telecommunication company stated that its system effectively identifies possible spam calls and text messages.
Furthermore, the Airtel solution notifies customers about dangerous links received through SMS. Airtel has created a centralized database of banned URLs and all text messages are checked instantly by an AI algorithm to warn users about potentially harmful links.
